Parker J. Palmer wrote extensively regarding the importance of a daily renewal through reflection, preferably in nature. Manufacturing, particularly serial production, has a tendency to draw us away from this regular renewal. We are working hours set by the machine. Fluorescent lights keep us awake 24 hours a day.
As a change agent and lean practitioner, I find the demands for my time are not limited to 8 am – 5 pm; regardless, I must make a conscious decision daily to find the time to pause. I am grateful for the trees that reflect the seasons so wonderfully just outside my doors and windows.
It has been scientifically proven that nature and green spaces reduce blood pressure. A walk in the park reduces stress levels on the body. As a result, I make exercise and green experiences a focal part of every vacation. Recently, I visited my girlfriend in Berlin. We spent the day on the lake with her family.
